A Little About the Artist and Exhibitions:

Sea To Sky
        Al-lisa Tresierra MaKay

Born in Squamish BC and raised in Williams Lake BC, I feel the Lower Mainland and the Cariboo are both home.
After bumbling around for years trying to find a purpose, my purpose found me…long ago, before I was even aware that it was always working through me.

I even fought it as I wanted to appease societal demands…(and e ‘normal’), but whenever I tried to fit in the Western society box…I would spill out all over the place and the masks and the jobs would simply fall one by one…. I had no choice but to step over them and embrace my true calling.

My purpose is the Arts and sharing. My aim is to inspire and ignite the creative spark in myself and in others.
It is what comes naturally to me and where I dwell most comfortably. Even the weight of words are so incredibly heavy compared to the lightness of creating.

The beauty of creating for me is in the knowledge that I am simply the vessel that art moves through. I feel like each creation is a gift which is searching for a way to be expressed, because I am willing to be a channel for creative expression to move through, the creations have a gateway to this point in timelessness. We are all vessels of creativity and it is delightful to see how people express it. I am inspired and I am humbled by it. Despite so much destruction and sickness in societies… it is hard to not feel optimistic as the connection with this natural world and the creative well is astonishing, full of infinite possibility and ancient divinity.

I have no official training in the arts but am deeply grateful for all the other artists on the planet who have shared and inspired me in silent teachings of observation. They have inspired me to know that survival as an artist in this western world is actually a possibility. I am truly humbled by the process of creating, as it is of utmost importance to step out of the way and let the creative flow through. I am allowing the process by showing up with the paintbrush, needle and thread or mound of clay, the creation itself always a surprise to my own eyes. It is undeniably a co-creation, I do not feel it is only me behind the paintbrush.

It is my hope that people are inspired enough to trust themselves to the act of abandonment of the left brain and just create in the timeless worldof the artful self. To drop the crust of societal armour and let emotions have an escape route by way of allowance, trust and personal self expression.

The Creative Path:
Art of the School District #27 program ‘Making Connections’

Making Connections is an off-campus education offering for children aged 5-17 in the district, and is aimed specifically at invigorating and nourishing the creative potential and intelligence that resides within each individual.

This intelligence and creative power is the ground from which a confident, connected and powerful individual may spring, and is thus a fundamental piece of the educational (and life!) puzzle.

We are all born as powerfully creative individuals, though you may find it difficult to get most adults to admit to that. We negate our creative impulses by stifling them in favor of logic-based intelligence, or suppressing them beneath the insecurity and self-doubt that are rampant within our societies. We all likely remember being young children and creating art without the restrictions of it being ‘good’ or ‘bad’, so when did we detach from that creative liberation?

Our philosophy is that children who know themselves to be powerfully creative, imaginative and artistic beings will not only enjoy their childhood more, but they will grow up to be powerfully creative, confident and expressive adults, capable of making decisions reflective not of insecurity or doubt, but in alignment with a deep appreciation of their unique gifts and capacities. All the work we commit to in this program is reflective of that philosophy, and results in imaginative and fantastically expressive pieces that we hope you’ll love. Perhaps you might even try some of these techniques at home with your family, dedicating a bit of time to reinvigorating or supporting your own creative path.
